![]() Detailed information regarding all of the toll roads covered in this study is shown at Error! Reference source not found. Most of the toll roads in Indonesia are operated on the island of Java. At the time of this study, there were 29 toll road segments in operation until September 2014. When there was no rest area inside the toll road segment, other locations were selected since the respondents could be approached only in places near the toll road. The questionnaire was distributed mostly to customers at the rest areas of related toll road segment. The final survey of around 100 respondents from each toll road segment throughout Indonesia survey was carried out from July 2nd 2014 until July 12th 2014, which resulted in a sample size amounting to 2900 respondents. The responses from this pilot survey were used to improve the quality and clarity of the questionnaire. A sample of ten respondents for each toll road segment was collected to obtain confirmation and corrections from the respondent. Before the real distribution, a pilot survey was conducted. In this study, samples have been collected using cluster sampling, since the respondents came from different toll road segments in Indonesia. The respondents perceived that there were no significant benefits to use electronic card in the toll road system, since there was a lack of connection with respondents’ daily financial behaviours. It was found that personal banking behaviours have a significant impact on the adaptability of electronic card usage. The customers were not homogenous in the characteristics of personal banking behaviours. This study found that toll road customers show a higher preference to use cash transactions instead of electronic payment. Not just personal characteristics, this study collected personal banking behaviour. To test the hypothesis that personal banking behaviour shapes the adaptability and level of usage of electronic card to pay the toll, a set of sample, originated from 29 toll roads in Indonesia, has been analysed. In order to investigate the reason behind the behaviour of electronic card usage, this study aims to investigate the influence of personal banking behaviour on the usage of the electronic card for toll road payment. It is argued that behaviours in using electronic card for toll payment have a strong relation with personal behaviours and attitudes of customers of commercial banks. As a matter of fact, the number of toll road customers in Indonesia who used electronic cards for toll payment is very low. The implementation of electronic toll collections brings many benefits for highway by reducing queuing. ![]()
